The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority has published the December 2024 masked reports from the National Claims and Policies Database, covering policy, claims, Lloyd’s and facility data for professional indemnity and public and product liability insurance. The database contains policy and claim information underwritten by Australian APRA-regulated general insurers since 2003, and the public release provides aggregated statistics intended to support analysis of premiums and claim costs. Unmasked publication data remains available only in limited circumstances, subject to APRA approval and acceptance of privacy terms. Access to unmasked data is limited to applicants that demonstrate a need to know the unrestricted statistics. Organisations and individuals that receive access must not attempt to identify specific persons or organisations, must limit use of the data to trend analysis and related insurance business decisions, and must control onward disclosure. Organisations must maintain a register of authorised individuals, support compliance, report possible unauthorised access and destroy the data when it is no longer required or access is withdrawn. APRA may restrict or terminate access for non-compliance. APRA’s explanatory notes for the refreshed publication also highlight data corrections and residual limitations. The release corrects a duplicate claims return for 2019, resolves inconsistencies between Level 1 and Level 2 outputs for 2018 to 2022, corrects some ANZSIC code allocation issues and improves policy-claim linkage. However, APRA warns that data for 2017 to 2019 should be interpreted with caution because mismatched policy identifiers across submissions have overstated gross written premium and new risk counts, and the issue cannot be fully resolved from the data available. The next issue is scheduled for late 2026 as the December 2025 edition.
