The Bermuda Monetary Authority will require applications involving anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing regulated financial institutions to include a police clearance certificate for each individual undergoing vetting as a key person from Oct. 1, 2026. The requirement also applies to notifications of changes to key persons and is intended to support fit and proper assessments with more complete criminal record information. Certificates must be no more than 12 months old and must come from each country where the individual was ordinarily resident for more than six months at any point during the preceding three years. The authority may accept substitute documentation on a case-by-case basis where a certificate cannot be obtained. Applications received in full before Oct. 1, 2026, will not be subject to the requirement, and relevant guidance and forms will be updated.
