The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert to the public following reports of fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens linked to Chong Hing Bank Limited. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Individuals who may have provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent sites or login screens are advised to contact Chong Hing Bank using the contact details in its press release and to report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
