The UK Financial Conduct Authority has opened authorisation applications for crypto firms ahead of the new regulatory regime taking effect on Oct. 25, 2027. Firms intending to continue operating in the UK should apply by Feb. 28, 2027. The regime will bring crypto firms into full FCA regulation for the first time, with standards covering consumer protection, customer asset safeguarding, market integrity and financial resilience. Authorisation will depend on firms demonstrating that they meet the FCA’s requirements. Firms that fall short will not be permitted to offer regulated cryptoasset services in the UK. Existing firms that apply during the application period may continue providing services and taking on new business while an unresolved application is assessed after the regime takes effect. The FCA expects to decide applications submitted during the application period before the new framework begins.
