The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has launched a digital hub that consolidates practical guidance, learning modules and tools for small business directors seeking to understand and meet their Corporations Act and ASIC-related obligations. The resources cover key stages of running a company, including planning, establishment, operation, financial difficulty, restructuring and closure, and include a director roadmap and free online learning modules. The initiative follows ASIC research involving 400 small business directors. One-third had little or no understanding of the consequences of breaching their obligations, while 22% had never accessed information or sought advice about those obligations. The leading barriers were insufficient time and resources and the volume of regulation, each cited by 49%, followed by the cost of professional advice at 44% and compliance costs at 41%.
