The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) issued an alert after receiving reports of counterfeit surety bond (cauzione) policies and draft policies made out to Swiss Re International S.E., which the insurer has disowned. IVASS noted that the documents display the PEC address swissreint@pec.net, which is not attributable to Swiss Re International S.E. It also recalled previous warnings about counterfeit surety bond policies marketed in Italy under the same name, published on 13 November 2020 and 18 September 2023. Swiss Re International S.E. is a Luxembourg insurer supervised by the Commissariat aux Assurances (CAA) and authorised to operate in Italy on both a freedom of services and establishment basis in several non-life classes, including class 15 (Suretyship). IVASS urged consumers to exercise caution and verify, before paying any premium, that quotes and contracts relate to duly authorised firms and intermediaries by checking IVASS’s online lists, including authorised insurers, the list of firms authorised for the suretyship line with telematic policy verification modalities, and registers of intermediaries and related alerts on counterfeiting and unauthorised entities.
