The Central Bank of Costa Rica issued a clarification that SINPE Móvil continues to operate without any prohibition or limitation, and that using the platform does not imply any tax payment for individuals who use the service. The bank said the service remains available for all types of transactions, whether personal or commercial. It reiterated that the only change taking effect from September 2025, under a Ministry of Finance requirement, is the inclusion of a specific code in electronic receipts that commercial entities must issue to identify SINPE Móvil payments, in the same way they identify other payment methods. The measure applies only to commercial establishments with tax reporting obligations and does not affect consumers who pay via SINPE Móvil.
