The Central Bank of Egypt published its May 2026 inflation statement, showing annual urban headline inflation edged down to 14.6% from 14.9% in April 2026, while annual core inflation remained unchanged at 13.8%. On a monthly basis, both headline and core inflation rose 1.6% in May, up from 1.1% in April. The urban consumer price index released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics increased 1.6% month on month in May 2026, compared with 1.9% in May 2025. The core consumer price index compiled by the central bank also increased 1.6% month on month, matching the rate recorded in May 2025. The central bank said its monthly inflation analysis will be published on 15 June 2026.
