The Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s Governor, Taleh Kazımov, spoke at a PASHA Holding “Business Talks” event on sustainable finance, outlining the central bank’s reforms and forward plans to support the green transition and embed sustainable finance as a core priority. The discussion focused on trends and challenges in environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting and ratings and climate-related financial risks. Kazımov pointed to the central bank’s Sustainable Finance Roadmap and the 2024–2026 Financial Sector Development Strategy, and highlighted key initiatives including adopting a green taxonomy, integrating ESG risks into banks’ risk management systems, developing frameworks for sustainable finance products, and establishing verification mechanisms. He also referenced a COP29 initiative prepared with international partners on improving the interoperability and comparability of sustainable finance taxonomies. Separately, Director General Şahin Mahmudzadə discussed the role of ESG ratings and challenges in building a sustainable finance ecosystem during an expert panel.
