The Bank for International Settlements announced that the Group of Central Bank Governors and Heads of Supervision (GHOS) has endorsed the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision’s work programme and strategic priorities for 2025-26, centred on Basel III implementation and work on emerging risks and vulnerabilities. GHOS members unanimously reaffirmed their expectation that Basel III will be implemented in full and consistently. The programme prioritises four themes: Basel III implementation; risk assessment and safeguarding resilience, including follow-up work reflecting lessons from the March 2023 banking turmoil; digitalisation of finance; and liquidity. Work will continue to be supported by collaboration with other standard-setting bodies and international fora, alongside engagement with external stakeholders. GHOS also agreed to take stock of the Basel Committee’s work on climate-related financial risks later in 2025.
