The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued a scam alert after being notified of a bank press release concerning scams involving fraudulent websites, internet banking login screens, phishing emails or other fraudulent activity. The alert relates to Ant Bank (Hong Kong) Limited and a reported fraudulent website, with a link to the bank’s press release provided on the HKMA website. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS messages or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to banks’ websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords via phone, email or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted financial transactions in response to the scams is advised to contact the relevant bank and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
