Bank Negara Malaysia reported international reserves of USD 132.1 billion as of July 31, 2026, sufficient to finance 4.7 months of imports of goods and services and equivalent to 0.9 times total short-term external debt, which mainly reflects resident banks’ foreign currency liquidity operations and multinational companies’ borrowing from overseas affiliates and can be met from their external assets without claims on the central bank’s reserves.
