The Central Bank of Paraguay unveiled a new family of guaraní banknotes featuring upgraded security and accessibility measures and redesigned imagery reflecting the country’s history, culture and biodiversity. The series retains the existing denominations of 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 and 100,000 guaraníes and will enter circulation gradually. Existing banknotes will remain valid and circulate alongside the new series until replaced through normal cash renewal processes, while coin designs will remain unchanged. The 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 guaraní banknotes will use polymer, while the three higher denominations will use cotton. All notes will be 6.7 centimeters wide, with progressively increasing lengths from 12.5 to 16 centimeters to help users distinguish denominations, particularly people with visual impairments. Raised lines on cotton notes and raised dots on polymer notes provide additional tactile identification. Each denomination also combines historical figures and cultural traditions with flora and fauna from a different Paraguayan ecoregion.
