The Central Bank of Taiwan reported that the daily average balance of reserve money increased by TWD 32.3 billion from July to TWD 7,579.6 billion in August 2026. Reserves deposited with the central bank rose by TWD 39.1 billion, more than offsetting a TWD 6.8 billion decline in currency in circulation. Expansionary effects from government interest payments, debt repayments, subsidies and centrally allocated tax revenues outweighed contractionary factors including tax remittances, government bond issuance and a net increase in negotiable certificates of deposit issued by the central bank. Annual reserve money growth edged up by 0.05 percentage points to 7.03%, while growth averaged 7.14% in the first eight months of 2026, compared with 5.83% in the same period of 2025.
