The Bank of Albania reported the completion of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Financial Sector Assessment Program for Albania. The assessment confirmed the financial system’s overall soundness and found that resilience, diversification and regulatory oversight have improved since the previous review in 2013–2014, supported by modernized payment infrastructure, expanded financial intermediation, new technologies and closer alignment with the European Union acquis. The review examined crisis management, systemic risk assessment, microprudential and macroprudential supervision, cybersecurity, digital finance, access to finance for small and medium-sized enterprises, and capital markets. Its recommendations are intended to strengthen resilience to emerging risks, improve financial-sector risk management and support financing for the real economy. Albanian authorities will review the assessment documents and use the recommendations to guide medium-term legal and operational reforms, including further alignment with EU standards. Cooperation with the IMF and World Bank will continue through technical assistance in selected areas covered by the assessment.
