Thailand's Ministry of Finance reported that the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance met World Bank President Ajay Banga and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the margins of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos to confirm Thailand’s preparedness to host the 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings. The meetings are scheduled for 12–18 October 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center under the theme “Thailand’s New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience”. Engagement with the World Bank covered the global economic situation and cooperation priorities for Thailand, including development, a low-carbon transition and job creation, with discussion of projects such as the Carbon City Development Project and the Saraburi Sandbox Project. Preparations with the IMF addressed the planned meeting format and related activities, including side events and pre-event programming under a “Road to Thailand” initiative, alongside suggested complementary themes such as safe and inclusive digital finance and the use of digital tools; the ministry also expects more than 15,000 participants from 191 countries. Further planning is set to continue through a visit to Thailand by the IMF meeting organizing team and the IMF Managing Director in March 2026, with additional detailed discussions expected at the Spring Meetings in April 2026.
