National Bank of Moldova Governor Anca Dragu and European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity, Implementation and Simplification Valdis Dombrovskis reviewed Moldova’s EU integration, macroeconomic stability and financial sector reforms at a bilateral meeting. The discussion continued the central bank’s work to align financial legislation with EU standards, with particular emphasis on meeting European requirements for central bank independence and preserving credible monetary policy and financial stability. The meeting also covered external economic risks, stronger tools for preventing and managing financial sector risks, and the implementation capacity and governance needed to direct support under the EU-backed Growth Plan toward investment and the real economy. Dragu highlighted Moldova’s participation in the Single Euro Payments Area and modernization of domestic payment infrastructure, while the two sides also discussed efforts to secure EU recognition of the equivalence of Moldova’s banking framework and the European Commission’s review of draft legislation relevant to accession.
