The National Bank of Moldova published monthly statistics on the cash foreign exchange market for December 2025, covering individuals’ purchases and sales of foreign currency against the Moldovan leu through cash exchange units. Total turnover was EUR 456.3 million in euro equivalent. Purchases of foreign currency amounted to EUR 364.8 million and sales to EUR 91.5 million. The euro dominated activity with EUR 343.8 million of turnover (75.8% of the total), followed by the US dollar at EUR 64.2 million (13.5%) and other currencies at EUR 35.0 million (8.7%). Turnover increased 26.0% versus November 2025, driven by a 30.6% rise in purchases and a 10.6% rise in sales; compared with December 2024, turnover was up 4.6% as purchases grew 13.4% while sales fell 20.1%, with the euro’s share higher by 11.5 percentage points and the US dollar’s share lower by 10.4 percentage points.
