The Central Bank of Nicaragua published its monetary indicators for August 2026, reporting that gross international reserves increased by USD 98.5 million to USD 9.986 billion, equivalent to 4.5 times the monetary base. All monetary aggregates grew year over year. Currency in circulation rose 15.9%, the monetary base 13.9%, public deposits 12.9% and the broad monetary aggregate M3A 13.4%. In domestic currency, central bank instruments produced a net liquidity contraction of NIO 1.553 billion, mainly through open market operations, while foreign currency instruments generated a USD 28.6 million liquidity expansion, primarily associated with reserve requirements.
