The Australian Financial Complaints Authority has added 114 organisations under the government’s Scams Prevention Framework as it prepares to become the external dispute resolution scheme for scam complaints on March 31, 2027. The intake follows the Sept. 1 membership deadline for designated organisations and advances AFCA’s expansion beyond its established financial-sector membership into telecommunications and digital platforms. The new members comprise 95 telecommunications providers, 15 digital platforms and four banks. They include Telstra, Optus and TPG, as well as Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, TikTok and X. Most banks covered by the framework were already AFCA members. From March 31, 2027, consumers will be able to lodge scam complaints against designated AFCA members. AFCA is also consulting on rules governing its handling of multi-party disputes under the framework, while designated organisations that have not joined remain expected to do so.
