The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance (SUSEP) has opened an online registration system for Mutualistic Property Protection Associations and required in-scope associations to register by 15 July 2025 or cease their property protection activities. The requirement applies to associations that, as of 16 January 2025, carried out activities related to protection against property, personal or other risks, including mutual aid and similar arrangements. Before registering, an association must amend its bylaws or articles of association to meet the requirements set out in Article 88-E of Decree-Law No. 73. Registrations are only considered valid if submitted between 30 April 2025 and 15 July 2025 and if they meet the parameters in the system and its manual; filing must be done by an association administrator with representation powers. Associations that do not register must terminate their property protection activities within the same 180-day period, or face applicable administrative and judicial sanctions; SUSEP noted that rules on the authorization of mutualistic property protection administrators to be hired by associations will be issued later.
