The National Bank of Moldova reported that official reserve assets stood at EUR 5,188.27 million on 29 May 2026, down EUR 21.56 million from EUR 5,209.83 million at 30 April. The decline mainly reflected payments on the Republic of Moldova’s external public debt and net outflows linked to licensed banks’ required reserves in foreign currency, partly offset by exchange rate gains on reserve currencies and income from reserve management. Outflows comprised EUR 30.07 million for external public debt service, EUR 20.42 million in net outflows related to banks’ required reserves in foreign currency, EUR 6.20 million in Ministry of Finance payments, EUR 0.53 million from the revaluation of securities held in the investment portfolio, and EUR 0.15 million in other net outflows. Offsetting factors included EUR 18.11 million from the appreciation of reserve currency exchange rates against the euro, EUR 12.98 million in income from managing foreign exchange reserves, EUR 4.08 million in receipts for Ministry of Finance investment projects, and EUR 0.64 million in net inflows to the Office for the Management of External Assistance Programmes. Net foreign assets stood at EUR 5,161.87 million at 31 May, down EUR 20.77 million over the month, while official reserve assets and net foreign assets remained EUR 84.00 million and EUR 87.23 million above end-2025 levels, respectively.
