The Labuan Financial Services Authority (Labuan FSA) organised the Labuan International Finance Lecture Series, focused on how ESG considerations, Shariah-compliant finance and technology can be combined to create new opportunities for Labuan International Business and Financial Centre (Labuan IBFC). The programme included a keynote by Dr Ahmad Hezri Adnan on the global ESG landscape and approaches to moving from regulatory alignment to impact-driven value creation, followed by a panel featuring Dr Renard Siew and Mr Faroze Nadar on converging ESG, Islamic finance and digital innovation. Discussion covered issues ranging from regulatory disclosure to embedding ESG in business strategy, governance and long-term value creation, with Labuan FSA highlighting Labuan IBFC’s RMB200 million Climate Sukuk backed by verified carbon-credit linked assets as an example of integrating sustainability, Islamic finance and digital tokenisation. More than 200 participants attended from across industry and other stakeholders.
