The South African Reserve Bank's Financial Surveillance Department has cancelled HSBC Bank plc Johannesburg Branch's appointment as an Authorised Dealer in foreign exchange with immediate effect. As a result, the branch no longer has authority to conduct authorised dealer business for the purposes of South Africa's Exchange Control Regulations. HSBC Bank's name will be removed from sections A.2(A) and A.2(B) of the Currency and Exchanges Manual for Authorised Dealers and the Currency and Exchanges Manual for Authorised Dealers in foreign exchange with limited authority. The update was published in Exchange Control Circular No. 17/2026 together with a Government Gazette notice issued under the Exchange Control Regulations published under Government Notice No. R.1111 of 1 December 1961, as amended.
