The Thailand Securities & Exchange Commission has revised the criteria for the list of cryptocurrencies that can be used to invest in digital tokens through the initial coin offering (ICO) process, to be received by ICO portals from investors or issuers for transactions, and to be used by digital asset exchanges as base trading pairs. The amendments add two cryptocurrencies, Tether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC), and take effect from 16 March 2025. Before the change, the eligible list comprised Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Ripple (XRP), Stellar (XLM), and cryptocurrencies used for testing settlement with the Bank of Thailand’s Programmable Payment Sandbox. The amendments follow a public hearing conducted in February 2025, where most respondents supported expanding the eligible list.
