The National Bank of Moldova published banking system statistics on cash operations for January–April 2025, showing cumulative cash withdrawals from banks’ cash desks exceeded cumulative cash receipts by MDL 1,220.3 million. Over the period, cash receipts rose to MDL 55,676.8 million (up MDL 1,906.6 million, or 3.5% year on year), while cash withdrawals increased to MDL 56,897.1 million (up MDL 2,908.0 million, or 5.4%). Consumer goods sales remained the largest source of cash receipts at MDL 31,506.7 million (56.6% of total), up MDL 1,025.2 million (3.4%). Other increases were recorded for cash credited to individuals’ current and deposit accounts (up MDL 818.2 million, or 15.8%), receipts from rents and коммунal services (up MDL 273.9 million, or 48.8%), and cash receipts for credit repayments (up MDL 128.0 million, or 7.6%), partly offset by a decline in receipts from other services (down MDL 392.2 million, or 9.5%). On the withdrawals side, the main driver was higher cash paid out to purchase foreign currency from individuals (up MDL 2,455.8 million to MDL 12,888.8 million, equivalent to EUR 662.7 million), representing 22.7% of total withdrawals; ATM withdrawals also rose (up MDL 703.9 million, or 3.0%), as did cash disbursed as loans to individuals (up MDL 487.5 million, or 41.6%), while withdrawals for other purposes fell (down MDL 662.6 million, or 9.2%) and cash withdrawals from individuals’ accounts declined (down MDL 145.9 million, or 2.2%).
