The Central Bank of Cyprus published monetary financial institution (MFI) deposit and loan statistics for May 2025, showing near-flat growth in total deposits while lending continued to expand. Total deposits recorded a net increase of EUR 1 million in May (April: EUR 492.9 million), bringing the stock to EUR 56.1 billion and lowering the annual growth rate to 5.8% (April: 7.6%). Deposits of Cypriots rose by EUR 24.6 million, with household and non-financial corporation deposits increasing by EUR 164.5 million and EUR 138.0 million respectively, offset by a EUR 278.0 million fall in deposits from other domestic sectors. Total loans increased by EUR 116.8 million (April: EUR 169.1 million), lifting the balance to EUR 25.7 billion and raising the annual growth rate to 5.1% (April: 4.9%); loans to Cypriot residents rose by EUR 2.6 million, as household lending increased by EUR 15.1 million while non-financial corporation lending fell by EUR 6.2 million and loans to other domestic sectors decreased by EUR 6.3 million. The central bank notes that net increases and decreases reflect transactions and exclude reclassifications, exchange-rate effects and other adjustments.
