De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) has relocated about 86 tonnes of gold from New York and Ottawa to London, improving the reserve’s tradability and availability during a severe crisis. The transfer, completed between March and August 2026, also produced a more balanced geographic distribution across North America, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Gold held at the Bank of England meets modern international trading standards and is considered more readily tradable than DNB’s holdings in New York and Ottawa. DNB sold almost 59 tonnes in New York and purchased an equivalent amount of standards-compliant gold in London. It also moved more than 27 tonnes physically from the United States and Canada to Zeist, while transferring the same amount of compliant gold from Zeist to London, avoiding the need to recast bars. The total reserve remains unchanged at 612.4 tonnes, valued at EUR 72.2 billion at end-2025, with the United States and Canada now each holding 18.5%.
