The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance (SUSEP) published Public Consultation Notice No. 1/2025 on a draft National Council of Private Insurance (CNSP) resolution that would set environmental, social and climate-related guidelines for rural insurance. The proposal is intended to apply across all rural insurance contracting, not only policies within the Rural Insurance Premium Subsidy Program (PSR). The draft is positioned as aligning SUSEP’s framework with the Federal Government’s Ecological Transformation Plan and reflects work by the “Insurance and Ecological Transformation” working group. It would align rural insurance rules with rural credit regulation, including National Monetary Council (CMN) resolutions 4.883/2020, 5.081/2023 and 5.193/2024 (which amends the Rural Credit Manual provisions on social, environmental and climate impediments), and discusses mechanisms to support quicker access to subsidies and claims while restricting access to rural insurance for properties not adhering to ESG requirements. The consultation will accept suggestions for 15 calendar days from publication of the notice.
