The European Central Bank (ECB) published an updated list of supervised entities, recording 109 significant entities under its direct supervision and a Sept. 1, 2026, cutoff for changes in group structures. The update reflects acquisitions affecting the BPCE and ABN AMRO groups and the licensing of Revolut Bank S.A. It also records Monte Paschi Banque S.A.’s transition to national supervision following its sale. NIBC Bank N.V. became a significant institution on Aug. 1, 2026, after ABN AMRO Bank N.V. acquired holdings exceeding 50% of its capital and voting rights. Direct ECB supervision began Sept. 1 as part of the ABN AMRO group. Revolut Bank S.A. was licensed as a credit institution and classified as significant on Aug. 7, with the ECB assuming direct supervision because it belongs to the group headed by Revolut Holdings Europe UAB. Following BPCE S.A.’s April 30 acquisition of holdings exceeding 50% of the capital and voting rights in NOVO BANCO and its subsidiaries, the banks remain significant institutions within the BPCE group. Their former holding companies, LSF Nani Investments and Nani Holdings, no longer qualify as supervised entities under the Single Supervisory Mechanism. Banco Santander Totta was subsequently identified as one of Portugal’s three most significant banks. Separately, Monte Paschi Banque’s sale to JCF MPB Acquisition on May 29 led to its reclassification as a less significant institution effective Sept. 2, with direct national supervision taking effect Oct. 2.
