Thailand’s Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) reported the handover of initial flood compensation of THB 10,000 per home in Lamphun under the national catastrophe insurance scheme. It is coordinating with the Thai General Insurance Association and insurers to expedite additional payments based on actual damage and policy conditions, subject to total housing coverage of THB 100,000 per home per event. The payments follow the claims assistance begun earlier in October, with Lamphun becoming the first province to submit applications under the group housing policy on Oct. 7, 2026. Heavy rain and flash floods on Oct. 4-5 affected 235 households across four villages in Pa Phlu subdistrict, Ban Hong district. The release does not specify how many households received the initial payment. The OIC is working with disaster management authorities and provincial officials to verify claimant information and assess compensation, with its Chiang Mai regional office tracking damage and claims locally. The existing government-funded scheme covers approximately 30 million homes against floods, windstorms and earthquakes without requiring residents to enroll or pay premiums themselves.
