The Financial Stability Board’s (FSB) Regional Consultative Group for Sub-Saharan Africa met in Maseru, Lesotho, on Oct. 23–24, 2026, to discuss financial stability vulnerabilities and regulatory and supervisory modernisation. Members examined how global policy uncertainty and economic fragmentation transmit to the region, alongside the applicability of the FSB’s proposed modernisation principles. Those proposals, published for consultation earlier in October, seek to improve regulatory and supervisory effectiveness while preserving or enhancing financial system resilience and maintaining internationally agreed standards. Discussions also addressed climate-related data gaps and insurance protection gaps, as well as the cybersecurity and financial stability implications of artificial intelligence and quantum computing. Members considered regional priorities for the FSB’s 2027 work programme, coordination across regional consultative groups and key messages from Sub-Saharan Africa to the FSB Plenary.
