Portugal’s National Council of Financial Supervisors (CNSF) published an account of its Sept. 25, 2026, meeting, at which it gave directions toward developing a specific regulatory proposal for the marketing of equity release products. This takes forward work assigned to a group established in November 2025 to consider whether specific regulation was needed. The council reviewed that group’s progress but did not announce final rules. On financial innovation, the CNSF approved the launch of the eighth edition of Portugal FinLab in 2027, following an update on the seventh edition and the joint initiative on technological free zones for the financial sector. Members also exchanged information and experiences on regulatory simplification, a topic included in their 2026 work plan. The council approved the closure of the working group coordinating supervisors’ involvement in the International Monetary Fund’s Financial Sector Assessment Program, following completion of the assessment of Portugal’s financial system. Its financial stability discussion highlighted uncertainty surrounding geopolitical and trade tensions and their effects on global economic activity. The council also received an update on Bank of Portugal macroprudential decisions in force since its June 2026 meeting, adopted after consultation with the CNSF.
