The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has extended the feedback period for its proposed insurance distribution reforms after receiving more than 650 comments. The extension allows wider participation in the consultation on “Recalibrating Economics of Insurance Distribution.” All other details and terms of the consultation paper remain unchanged. Released on Sept. 23, 2026, the proposals would simplify distributor categories and entry requirements, lower insurer expense limits and recalibrate commissions according to products, channels and servicing needs. They also envisage stronger commission disclosure and safeguards against mis-selling. These measures remain proposals under consultation, rather than finalized requirements.
