Finland's Financial Supervisory Authority (FIN-FSA) has published survey findings showing that 93% of respondents use artificial intelligence (AI) or plan to introduce it within two years. The survey, conducted in spring 2026, received responses from 84 financial sector entities. Use of generative AI and general-purpose AI models rose from 74% to 90% over the year, while AI use in customer interactions also increased. Governance practices and staff training strengthened across all company size categories, and monitoring and safeguards against discrimination improved across all sectors. AI agents and agentic AI emerged as a new area whose significance is expected to grow. Respondents also identified use cases classified as high risk under the European Union's AI Act that are already deployed or planned. The act permits these applications but imposes risk management obligations. Financial sector entities must be able to demonstrate sound risk management, with particular attention to clear responsibilities, system monitoring and preventing discriminatory outcomes in these use cases.
