South Korea's Financial Services Commission published an update on the Public Participation Growth Fund's first asset management reports, disclosed by Mirae Asset, Samsung and KB Asset Management. The fund recorded a cumulative return of about 0.50% over the three months to Sept. 11, while approximately 46.3% of funding across its 10 underlying funds had been invested. About 80% of investments excluding cash equivalents went to advanced strategic industries. The portfolio included listed and unlisted equities and mezzanine instruments, while cash equivalents accounted for 49.7% of assets. Underlying fund returns ranged from minus 19.86% to plus 3.15%, with some recording valuation losses on listed equities amid increased stock market volatility. Subordinated capital from the government and underlying fund managers absorbs initial losses of around 20%, keeping the overall fund return positive. Individual investor returns vary with fees across fund classes. The fund has a maturity of five years, and its unlisted equity and mezzanine holdings require a longer perspective on performance because valuations are not immediately available for all assets.
