South Korea’s Financial Services Commission, together with the Ministry of National Defense and the Korea Inclusive Finance Agency, announced plans to provide free, individual financial counseling at military bases for personnel aged 19 to 34. Professional counselors are expected to begin visits in late November 2026, addressing scheduling and location constraints that have limited access to advice in person. Eligible participants include officers, noncommissioned officers, other service members and civilian military employees. Counseling will cover asset building, budgeting, and credit and debt management, tailored to participants’ financial circumstances. Military units requesting group financial education will receive it alongside individual counseling. The visits extend a nationwide youth financial counseling program launched in July 2026, which had served about 19,000 people by the end of September. The existing program combines online financial assessments with free counseling in person or online. Participants also receive a preferential interest rate benefit of 0.2 percentage points on Youth Future Savings accounts.
