The Central Bank of the Netherlands published pension figures showing that 42 funds had transferred accrued pension rights into the new system by Sept. 30, 2026, eight more than at the end of the previous quarter. Among funds yet to transition, the funding ratio increased by 4.7 percentage points in the third quarter to 136.1%. Pension funds held EUR 1.63 trillion in total assets at quarter-end. Funds operating under the Future of Pensions Act (WTP) accounted for EUR 566 billion, excluding earmarked funds, while those still subject to the Financial Assessment Framework (FTK) held EUR 1.064 trillion. Funds have until Jan. 1, 2028, to transfer accrued rights into the new system. The increase in FTK funds’ funding ratio reflected higher interest rates, rising equity prices and updated 2026 actuarial projections that revised life expectancy downward. Their policy funding ratio, the average of 12 monthly funding ratios, rose by 2.3 percentage points to 130%. These indicators apply only to funds yet to transition. WTP arrangements use individual pension assets to determine expected pensions, meaning their financial position cannot be summarized by a single indicator such as the funding ratio.
