The Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) has confirmed that the revocation of AE Insurance’s (AEI) license for financial advice and intermediation, including mortgage credit, has become final because no appeal was filed. The decision, taken on Jan. 27, 2026, followed a sustained pattern of serious breaches. AEI must wind down its activities. The breaches, committed from 2020 onward, included unsuitable mortgage advice to many customers and systematic cooperation with an intermediary lacking the required license. AEI also played a facilitating role in dozens of mortgage fraud cases, submitting numerous mortgage files containing income information that lenders considered false. AEI lacked an incident reporting policy and failed to notify the AFM of serious incidents over an extended period. It also repeatedly refused to comply with statutory requests for information. This pattern of misconduct led the AFM to conclude that AEI could not meet requirements for sound and ethical business operations.
