The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic has introduced new KGS 20 and KGS 50 banknotes dated 2026, manufactured in Kyrgyzstan for the first time. The notes preserve the design of the existing fifth series. All national currency banknotes remain legal tender and must be accepted for payment regardless of their year of issue. The new notes retain the existing dimensions and colors, with historical figures on the front and cultural landmarks on the reverse. Security features include portrait watermarks, security threads displaying the denomination and central bank logo, and images that align when viewed against light. Raised printing, a hidden multicolored som symbol visible when tilted, a shiny strip on the reverse and microprinting provide additional authentication features.
