The European Commission has outlined how research funded by the European Union (EU) supports the EU Framework for Climate Resilience, highlighting a new CORDIS Results Pack showcasing 14 projects with tested adaptation solutions. The work combines better assessment of climate risks with support for local adaptation and measures to bring technologies and financing solutions into wider use. Through Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, the EU has supported more than 225 climate adaptation projects with approximately EUR 1.6 billion. Research has advanced understanding of interacting climate hazards and their economic costs. Further work will address gaps concerning risks that cross borders, compound or cascade, as well as climate tipping points. The EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change supports close to 300 regions and local authorities, roughly twice its initial target. Its portfolio of 76 Horizon projects represents EUR 690 million in EU investment, helping translate research into practical measures for challenges including water security and infrastructure resilience. Support for commercial deployment includes the European Innovation Council Accelerator Challenge on Deep Tech for Climate Adaptation and a new Horizon Europe bridging action, together investing EUR 70 million. These initiatives support innovative businesses and help bring climate preparedness solutions closer to market. Separately, research projects have tested insurance solutions across Europe, examining their effectiveness, inclusiveness, economic viability and potential for wider deployment. The 14 projects in the new Results Pack, including five funded under the adaptation mission, demonstrate practical solutions and approaches to the governance, standards and financing conditions needed for wider adoption.
