The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has granted registered debenture trustees a further six months, until April 27, 2027, to comply with requirements governing activities outside its regulatory remit. The extension replaces the October 27, 2026 deadline, which followed an earlier extension granted in April 2026. The existing framework requires these activities to be conducted through separate business units, segregated from operations regulated by SEBI, with separate records and grievance handling arrangements. The additional time reflects both continuing implementation challenges raised by debenture trustee associations and a comprehensive regulatory review by an expert working group constituted in June 2026. That review includes the separate business unit framework. All other provisions of the November 25, 2025 circular establishing the operational requirements remain unchanged.
