The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic reported an agreement to establish a joint working group to explore regional payment integration, focusing on payments across borders using QR codes and interoperability between instant payment systems. The agreement forms part of a joint protocol signed by central bank representatives at a meeting of Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on Oct. 22-23, 2026. The working group will bring together representatives of central banks and national payment system operators from five countries. Its planned work includes examining organizational, legal and technical arrangements for integration, including alignment of payment message formats, payment details and security requirements. It will also consider developing a roadmap for implementing integration solutions in stages. Participants also agreed to examine mechanisms for sharing information on cyberthreats and fraud schemes, alongside cooperation against fraudulent and other illegal transactions. Further exchanges will address supervision of payment systems according to risk, regulation of digital financial assets, and applications of artificial intelligence and supervisory and regulatory technologies.
