The National Bank of Denmark published statistics showing Danish households held DKK 1,517 billion in securities at the end of September 2026, up DKK 130 billion since the start of the year. Holdings were unevenly distributed among 2 million private investors. Median holdings were DKK 91,600, compared with an average of DKK 745,389, reflecting the concentration of large portfolios among a relatively small number of people. Ordinary securities accounts accounted for 67% of holdings, while private pension accounts outside pension companies held a significant share. The difference between average and median holdings was particularly pronounced in these two account categories. Median holdings in pension accounts were DKK 228,819. Share savings accounts and children’s savings accounts showed smaller differences, reflecting contribution limits that restrict portfolio size. The figures exclude pooled schemes and cover retail investors holding securities at Danish banks or trading platforms.
