The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) has extended the period within which the public postal operator and authorised exchange dealers must return foreign currency cash purchased from banks from 15 to 30 days. The measure applies until 10 December 2026 and aims to maintain an uninterrupted supply of foreign currency cash to citizens and preserve exchange market stability. An earlier temporary measure announced in February 2026 had shortened the same return period from 30 to 15 days as part of a gradual return to the rules in place before December 2025. In its current update, the NBS reported that Serbia’s foreign exchange market remains stable and that banks and authorised exchange dealers hold sufficient foreign currency cash to meet domestic needs.
