Guernsey's Committee for Home Affairs has submitted three amendments to the proposed 2027 budget to maintain frontline services, protect vulnerable residents and safeguard financial crime enforcement capacity. The committee warned that both proposed budget options would compromise service delivery and core statutory functions. The requested increases address existing staffing and operational pressures rather than service expansion or new initiatives. For frontline services, the amendments seek GBP 1,953,000 under Option A or GBP 792,000 under Option B to support police, firefighter and prison officer staffing, specialist training and operating costs. Funding for vulnerable groups would increase by GBP 998,000 under Option A or GBP 699,000 under Option B. This would sustain sexual assault support and specialist offender treatment, support the use of new protective legislation and add capacity to the Family Proceedings Advisory Service. The third amendment seeks GBP 988,000 or GBP 790,000 to preserve existing investigative capacity at the Economic & Financial Crime Bureau and support operational resilience at the Financial Intelligence Unit. It would also fund recovery at the Population Management Office as part of measures to safeguard the island's international reputation and economy.
