Thailand's Office of Insurance Commission has deployed staff to assess damage and coordinate insurance claims following flash floods and landslides in Phuket on Oct. 25–26, particularly in Patong. The response focuses on helping eligible homeowners access initial compensation of THB 10,000 under the existing national disaster insurance policy, alongside assessments of claims under other insurance policies. The government-provided disaster policy, which began coverage on Oct. 1, 2026, covers approximately 30 million homes nationwide without requiring residents to enroll or pay premiums themselves. Flood compensation is payable in two stages: an initial THB 10,000 and up to a further THB 90,000 based on actual damage, subject to a combined limit of THB 100,000 per home per event. Eligible homes must have a house registration and be registered with the Ministry of Interior. Property coverage applies to structures, excluding furniture. Claims checks include whether the home was within an officially declared disaster area when the event occurred. Local staff are gathering damage information, assisting homeowners with claims and coordinating eligibility checks and payment assessments with insurers. The commission has also asked relevant insurers to expedite assessments under existing home, fire, property and motor policies. These policies may provide additional coverage, subject to their terms, particularly where losses exceed the national disaster policy's limit.
