The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced an industry roundtable on Dec. 15 to examine the viability of moving derivatives markets to 24/7 trading. The event will build on its summer request for comment on continuous trading in standard futures and on perpetual contracts referencing physically delivered or storable energy commodities. Discussion will examine how overnight trading and tokenization are shaping market structure, alongside the infrastructure, staffing and operational readiness needed to support continuous trading. Chairman Michael S. Selig reiterated that the CFTC will not take a uniform approach across asset classes and will seek industry views on their differing circumstances. The roundtable will be held at the CFTC’s Washington headquarters and livestreamed publicly.
