The European Commission’s latest monthly EU agri-food trade report shows a surplus of EUR 34.7 billion for January–August 2026, up EUR 4.1 billion from the same period in 2025. Imports fell by EUR 4.5 billion, or 4%, to EUR 122.9 billion, while exports remained broadly stable at EUR 157.7 billion. The import decline largely reflected falling cocoa prices, which reduced the value of purchases from major cocoa producers. Imports of coffee, tea, cocoa and spices dropped by EUR 5.5 billion, or 19%. On the export side, value increases across several categories offset lower sales of olive oil, pig meat and cocoa products. Exports of spirits and liqueurs rose by EUR 583 million, or 11%.
