At the launch of the Ghana Statistical Service’s first Ghana in Numbers 2025 report, Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama called for a dedicated electronic portal providing access to the publication’s underlying data. Accessible formats suitable for automated analysis would allow researchers and policymakers to apply artificial intelligence (AI) and other analytical tools beyond the published tables and charts. The bank’s own capacity development includes the establishment of a Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence Department to strengthen data governance and policy analysis. Asiama also reiterated plans, previously outlined to banks in October, for a directive regulating AI use in the financial sector to support innovation while addressing emerging risks. Against the report’s focus on youth and demographic transition, Asiama linked macroeconomic stability and a functioning financial system to access to finance and enterprise development. Average lending rates declined to 15.78% in September 2026 from 30.25% in December 2024, while real private sector credit growth rose to 26.42% from 0.20% over the same period. Inflation had remained in single digits for 13 consecutive months. These figures updated the bank’s earlier October assessment of easing credit conditions.
